The unemployment impacts of COVID-19
While Indian leaders are talking about the utopia of $5 trillion economy by 2024, India is facing its worst employment rates in the last 45 years.
What is so much in these unemployment numbers that leaders promise to eliminate this and opposition parties howl and cry over it? With India's major chunk now in the age of demograpic dividend, the piece would talk about the technical aspects of unemployment.
What is unemployment?
The term unemployment is much abused in India. There might be many people who are not willing to work are called unemployed.
Unemployment is measured in various ways, many government-authorised agencies come up with figures in their way.
Could this global pandemic (Covid-19) be the perfect opportunity for the unemployed?
The ongoing pandemic can in fact present a range of opportunities that we would otherwise be unable to attempt, or unwilling to explore.
In our modern digitalized world, there are more and more people who work as freelancers, work from home, or make living by finding various gigs that fit their skill-set. For such type of work, I see three challenges.
The first challenge - naturally the most obvious - is not having a stable source of income.
The second challenge has to do with the added workload.
The last challenge, is something that is not often discussed, but is real none the less and what I want talk about why it should no longer be a struggle in this crazy world.
When you are out of a job, you can't help but look around you who are going to a stable jobs everyday, and have a stable source of income. You feel behind everybody.
When we are fully employed and have a sense of security, we would rarely think to take risk by leaving job and to attempt something new, it maybe a passion project, maybe a business idea or something else.
Normally, very few people take such risk as they have that sense of security. Security is great thing, but sometimes it come at price of freedom.
In the movie Fight Club, Tyler Durden, says: "It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything."
In the age of global pandemic, whether you are stuck at home or you dont't have any job you should not lose hope. This is the ideal time to start something new, develop yourself, explore new areas, and take a leap-of-faith.
So where to start?
First, you need to build your online presence. It is a sure to get your future clients and employers.
You should make sure that when your name is searched, a picture of the ideal candidate pop up.
Lastly you should explore different income streams.
At sitting at home explore, develop and create. Your future will thank you and start ahead when race does resume.

Unemployment is such an issue in society.
